Product Description:
The Texas Observer is a progressive bi-weekly magazine that has covered politics, arts, and culture in Texas for 53 years. The Observer pursues stories that are ignored or unreported in the mainstream press and publishes a wide variety of book reviews, essays, poetry, and commentary. With a devoted readership and a history of courageous journalism from the likes of Molly Ivins and Jim Hightower, The Texas Observer has been at the forefront of Texas politics since 1954.

'The Observer is the finest example of pure journalism I know. It does, in fact, comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. If you’ve ever wondered whether there’s more going on out there, try the Observer. There is.' – Molly Ivins

You will receive incisive journalism, analysis, and writing on the arts in the pages of The Texas Observer every two weeks. Twice a year, in the summer and winter, the Observer publishes a special issue devoted to books and the culture, and then skips an issue.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Worth your time to read
The Texas Observer is the kind of critical news paper that should be required reading by anyone who has reached teen-age and/or older. Most people read words but don't attempt to understand their meaning, but the authors of articles in the Observer write on subjects that should be near and dear to those living in Texas and words of warning to those living in other states. It's unfortunate that many articles describe the results of things perpetrated by unscrupulous persons but are eagerly used ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - I gave one star more than it deserves!
Is this magazine supposed to be balanced and informative?

Between Molly Ivins and Jim Hightower, there are no bigger liberals in Texas.

I recommend passing on this one.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Can't do without the Texas Observer
I have lived all over the country and never let my subscription to the Texas Observer lapse. I send gift subscriptions to my friends overseas. Where else can you get clear perspective, the unvarnished truth, and the highest quality of writing and investigative reporting - all delivered with sass and wit? And it's a great bargain! There's also a collection from past issues, Fifty Years of the Texas Observer. Stay informed and entertained, get it today.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best Journalism in Texas... and Beyond
You don't need to be a Texan, or give a damn about Texas politics to find the Texas Observer useful, insightful, outrageous, and downright fun to read. The Observer is the juicy peach of political journalism and good writing, bursting with flavorful stories and tidbits every two weeks.
Jim Hightower

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Texas Observer provides vital reporting.
For more than half a century, The Texas Observer has been the source of information for people who want to know what's REALLY going on in Texas politics and culture. If people around the country had been reading the Observer during George W. Bush's tenure as governor of Texas, he never would have become resident-in-chief. Molly Ivins always referred to Texas as the "National Laboratory for Bad Government" and the Observer reveals how tru that is. Many of the policies GWB put into effect in Texas ... Read More
