The First Alert SCO5CN carbon monoxide and smoke alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor-the most accurate technology available. The alarm uses photoelectric smoke sensing technology which is environmentally friendlier and which reduces nuisance alarms, making it ideal for cooking areas. It is also great for sensing slow smoldering fires quickly. The permanent sensors last the lifetime of the alarm. The test/silence button both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit's functionality. The alarm uses different 85-decibel horns and lights depending on whether it's alerting you to smoke or carbon monoxide. A low battery signal alerts you to replace the battery and end-of-life alarm of three chirps alerts you to replace the unit. Two AA batteries are included. 5-year limited warranty. UL listed. I have ordered two of thees alarms, for Amazon, and am impressed with them. In preparation for this review I passed the smoke of two freshly extinguish matches under one, and it immediately responded. The alarm was loud, as a alarm should be, and continued until I pressed the test/silence button. No doubt it would have shut itself off given time but I wonted to test the silent feature out. It works well, and is worth the price.

Affordable, easy to install, uses common batteries. Seems to work but hopefully it'll never have a reason to go off. This is a photo smoke sensor, not an ionizing fire sensor. Wasn't clear to me in description. This isn't necessarily good or bad though.

This was very easy to install. It looks sylish and looks great in the kitchen. It was easy to program the location for the voice alter. The remote control mute feature is great. We have set it off a few times when cooking and hit the mute button with ease. It even tells you the carbon monoxide level via the voice alert. Great product.

I spent a good amount of time in the fire safety aisle of a local store, reading packages and comparing units before selecting this particular one to replace an aging smoke-only alarm. This one has two different-sounding alarms (3 beeps for fire and 4 beeps for carbon monoxide) and runs on 2-AA batteries. I like the fact that the CO detector/Smoke alarm are combined. I used to have them in the house separately. They work great, easy to install.
