The return of The Duke. | Wellington 'The Duke' Mara passed away in October, 2005 at the age of 89 after dedicating 81 years to the New York Giants as an administrator, owner, and unwavering booster. In 1940, heeding the advice of influential team owners Tim Mara of the New York Giants and George Halas of the Chicago Bears, the NFL selected Wilson as the league's official football supplier. The following year, Wilson introduced a redesigned football and named it 'The Duke' in honor of Mara's son, Wellington. The Duke stayed in play for nearly three decades until the NFL and AFL merged in 1969.

Rating:  - Misleading Picture
This is the real thing, and obviously a great football. My only complaint is that it is not as pictured. The ball for 2008 has 8 stars on the new NFL logo, one for each division. The first 2 Goodell years (06/07) had the old multiple stars logo, as pictured. This is the new 8 star 2008 football.

I'm from The Netherlands so not really familiar with american football (as of yet) but more with real football we play here. But i can savely say that this ball is simply excellent!!! I recommend this ball to everyone in de US as well as in Holland and the rest of Europe (the whole world even), top quality! The grip, weight and size are just perfect and you can through it really far..like 45-50 meters at least(don't know in yards).

This is THE ACTUAL BALL that the professionals of the NFL use, so how can you give it anything other than five stars. This is like driving Jeff Gordon's stockcar or swinging Barry Bonds' bat -- it may not be the most comfortable for you to use but it's the real deal. If you're buying a ball for a kid, get something easier on the hands. But this is like having the actual ball that Eli Manning threw and which David Tyree caught with his head.
Rating: - Know what you're buying
This is the official football used by the NFL and you'll be paying for it. If you want an affordable, durable, all-weather football, there are great balls by Spaulding, Nike, even Wilson, in the $20-$40 range.
