Sorry, but I cannot agree with the positive reviews. While there certainly are some merits to make these old movies available at a bargain price, one has to see the great shortcomings: Most films are of VERY poor quality, but what really is horrifying is that NEARLY ALL of these filmes are SIGNIFICANTLY cut!

This is a great set for the new Chaplin fan. I bought this DVD set after falling in love with Charlie Chaplin's silent comedy and I loved it. Until I purchased the The Chaplin Collection it was over 14 hours of pure fun. Its a great collection of his work and although its far from amazing quality you cant expect way too much from such old film, some are now over 90 years old. For the money you CAN'T go wrong with this set. My interest in seeing some of Chaplin's original work came after finally seeing the film "Chaplin" based on his life starring Robert Downey Jr. What an amazing man and an extraordinary life! This collection of films is very good quality, though not perfect to be sure. Rating: - Good to see vintage Chaplin
While many of these shorts are in tough shape, it is good to see vintage Chaplin from Keystone and Sennett and many of the shorts are hilarious. The only down side is the scoring, which is repetitive and the kind of rinky-tinky nickelodeon type of piano music one expects with very early shorts. However, this doesn't detract immensely from watching a genius in action. For the price this set is worth the watch. Thoroughly enjoyable.

this collection isn't as good as a previous one that i bought(charlie chaplin:the little tramp).what makes it bad is the lack of respect for the material/artist.chaplin was G-O-O-D!!!he was,without a doubt,THE superstar of his era...the material was fantastic when chaplin put it on film.this collection has a great deal of his funniest/best routines,but they're barely watchable.this cuts the entertainment value down to zero...
